Adding Sports Infrastructure to your Property

Thinking about adding a sports infrastructure to your property? It is a great use of space for the active homeowner. There is a wide variety of sports infrastructure. The most popular ones we build are: tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball sand courts, multi-use sports courts, pickle-ball, racquetball, or batting cages.

Picking what sport you want on your property is just the beginning, as there are many steps and decisions to make along with way. Partnering with DCarson Construction early on in the process can ease your mind as we can help with the decision making and building. Here are the essentials to consider:

1. Space

The first step is deciding if there is enough room on the land to build. This will also determine what you can choose to build. Depending on the sport, you might need an extremely large space, so be sure to measure out the area before moving on to the next step.

2. Leveling

Second, you will want the land to be level for the sporting area. In order to level the area, your developer will have to create a leveling plan that can include building retaining walls, extending or utilizing part of a driveway, and/or creating a new space. We recommend making the space multi-purposeful, one you can use for parking, entertaining and playing if need be.

3. Fencing

You will also want to consider adding fencing around the area in order to keep all of the sporting equipment in one area. This will help you avoid running all over the property after a baseball or tennis ball, or keeping yourself or kids contained in the sports space helping them focus on their practice.

4. Surface

Another aspect to consider is the type of surface on the sporting infrastructure. The three main surface choices are: concrete, rubberized surface, and turf. Deciding what the court will be used for along with if the court will be multi-use will be helpful in this decision as it will determine the lines and painting needed on the surface. It will also help determine if additional space will be required.

5. Lighting

If you plan on using your space in early mornings or evenings, light sources will be another aspect that you want to look in to. When considering lighting, it is important to look at how the lights will be positioned to avoid shining light directly into your home or your neighbors’ homes. There may also be guidelines and restrictions in the neighborhood based on light pollution, which is common in areas surrounding an airport.

6. Maintenance & Storage

Once the infrastructure is built the last two things to worry about are maintenance and storage space. Maintenance is considerably low, other than having to get lines repainted every few years. Storage options will be determined based on what sports you are using the space for. For example, a ball machine for tennis or baseball might be needed. These can be added over time and as you use your space.

A sports infrastructure can be a great new element to your property, especially when there is space for it!
